Info Center Kamiakin punishes Pasco 42-12

PASCO -- Kamiakin's opening kickoff return -- a perfectly blocked 94-yard touchdown gallup by Jesse Houser -- was big.

Jason Hutchison's three touchdown passes of 48 yards or more was impressive.

Six touchdowns by six different players was a testament to the Braves' balanced offense.

But perhaps the most important aspect of Kamiakin's 42-14 CBBN 3A win over Pasco on Friday at Edgar Brown Stadium was this:

Drew Oord was back.

After serving a two-game suspension -- retroactive to last year's spring season -- for a violation of the student code, the Braves linebacker and fullback was in full seek-and-destroy mode against the Bulldogs.

When he wasn't making tackles (he led the team with eight), he was dishing out punishment on the kick return teams. When he wasn't firing out as a lead blocker for Zach Umemoto, he was carrying the ball himself.

And to add the finishing touches, he even scored Kamiakin's final touchdown on a 1-yard, third-quarter plunge.

"I was so excited to play. The whole day I couldn't really focus," said Oord, a two-way starter on the Braves' team that reached the 3A championship in 2010. "Sitting out was real tough. I felt more like I was letting the team down."
